First Egg Countdown

Pics
She laid an egg!! She laid an egg! Well, actually, she dropped it. From her roost, like 6 feet up in the air. A double yolk! But the shell was very thin (I got her some oyster shell bits this weekend, hoping that helps) and that plus the height, no egg for us. I removed the carnage and am hoping for a better day tomorrow. Poor girl, she just pooped everywhere, I don't think she knew what was happening to her body, but had to squeeze something out. I'm hopeful that she will understand more tomorrow.

I am still waiting. The twin might be waiting till next yr at this rate. all my other pullets are going to be around 16 weeks and some of them are starting to get red. I moved the 12 week old ones in the coop last night. so it might be even more time till I get that first egg.

Ive been egarly waiting for a long time now. My production red or golden comet (not sure) is almost 19 weeks and she has been in the nesting boxes because I have seen a cleared out space where there is no bedding. Does that mean she is trying to lay an egg?

Yes! My four RIRs all checked out the nesting boxes a few days before they started laying... now, just a week or so later, we are getting at least 3 a day! Yippee!

My birds are Barred Rocks, 18 wks. Should I be expecting something? Should I prepare the nest box? I'm not sure they will fit in it, they are bigger birds than I expected.

What a tragedy! However, Congrats! We had one egg on Monday, and nothing since then.....

I have nothing today. Not even one dropped from a terrible height. Hoping for good news tomorrow. Did you get one today?
