Okay, someone is "trying". There were 2 softshell eggs on the "poop board" under the roost. One was a little 'fart' egg and the other was full sized. The full sized one had a hole in one side and the "white" had leaked out, but it doesn't look like any of the hens tried eating it (the dog enjoyed it!) Hopefully they will keep trying until they get the hang of it.

I was told to feed my chickens Manna Pro

Oyster Shells at 19 weeks to encourage hard shells. They (6 buff orpingtons and 3 SLW's) have layed 7 eggs since 9/17 almost a week now and they were all hard shells. I think one chicken layed 6 of them because yesterday i got a tiny egg with black hair on it (SLW prob ).

Its funny the pecking order of the chickens seems to have changed a bit since egg laying started. Since a few weeks in the coop they slept in certain areas on the roosts. Since laying now 2 of the lower chickens are now on top roost in the spots where 2 other chickes always were. New Queen and Princess due to egg laying i guess.

This is a picture of an egg from each breed I have. The first egg is a double yolk from one of my Golden Comets(notice the flat area in the middle of the egg), 2.3 ounces. The next egg is a regular GC egg, 2.2 ounces. The third egg is an Black Australorp egg, 2 ounces. The fourth egg is a Rhode Island Red egg, 1.5 ounces

The Golden Comets ard 10 months old and have been laying for four months. The BA's are 29 weeks old and all of them have been laying for a month. The RIR's are 23 weeks old and the last one of them layed her first egg this week.

( we need an egg smiley )

We are up to 4 hens laying and counting! This morning, a delicious breakfast courtesy of the ladies!
The egg in front is a Jumbo from the supermarket. Our hen's larger egg on the left was a double yoker! And another cute little pullet egg this morning, just like the little light colored one in the middle. Other than the first egg, all others have been in the nests! This is very exciting! Our hens will be 20 weeks on Tuesday.

Congratulations to the first egg-ers! We now have three out of nine laying. We have gotten olives, lt browns, and today a large off-white double yoked one. We are so proud of our girls.

Well I am still not getting any eggs from my pullets. I really thought that they would lay while I was out of town for the weekend. So I Am in for a long wait I guess for it looks like it might be next spring before I get any eggs form any of my pullets. The weather is getting colder and the days are getting shorter so we wait.
