First Egg Countdown

Out of all my chickens I have 2 that should be laying and only one of them is at this time, the other is just coming off a long broody time. I have 1 out of 5 pullets that are 20+ that could be laying. Most all my chickens are barn yard mutts, 2 are prod reds or RIR one is a honey color with green legs so I am thinking EE and two are BR mix(from my first two hens and rooster) Only time will tell who will be next.
This morning I was cleaning out the coop and Sugar told me to get out of there so she could lay her egg, she is the one that just started to lay last week.

I feel like a jerk even saying it. But something has to give - either I lower the chicken feed bill or our grocery bill. And, I've been squeezing our grocery budget as much as possible lately. So I can either eat a chicken or eat one of my kids, and I'm pretty sure that is illegal.

But. . . maybe neither will be necessary. I found the most precious little creamy pink egg this morning. I was so excited I actually teared up.

But I'm happy to report that my BCM, miss Ruby, has become quite friendly the past 2 days and I think I'm seeing a big girl squat! I caught her stepping out of the nest box today and she was SO vocal today, too. Me thinks there's a change in the wind?

I'd love to join in! I'm almost done reading all the previous posts.

I've got 3 bantams that, when I counted the weeks today, are at 19 weeks (I miss counted before, oops!) They're getting redder, but aren't quatting I don't think. RePeep actually let me pet her for about half a second today, which is unusual! Peep is still the gentle soul of the trio.

I've also got 3 babies, hold on. Ok. I was talking about the babies, and one flew out of the brooder and went looking for me!

LOL. That ones my BR, about 3 weeks old, and I have 2 RIRs about the same age. She's chilling on my lap now. Hard to believe they're going to be bigger than the bantams at this age! LOL.

So, I'm anxiously awaiting my bantams to start laying, and then I'll begin the countdown to when I'll have regular sized eggs.....
