First Egg Countdown

That would be alot for me I have 23 girls and about to add more..

Yeah, I just have 7. So, doing their individual name stamps wasn't too out of line. I'm going to be giving some of my girls' eggs away to the neighbors, who have kids... so... I thought it would be fun for them while really driving the point home about where some of their food comes from.

I think if I had more than 10 hens though, what I'd do instead is break it down to the different breeds, because the differences in the eggs that come from different breeds is still very fascinating. And if I managed to have more than 10 breeds, I'd probably just do one with my last name or the name of the egg business I'd be running and writing the date they were laid on the cartons they went in... because, at that point, that's a lot of eggs to stamp... And if it came down to having zillions of eggs every day, I'd just buy one of those dating stamps and to heck with breeds and names of chickens.

I too am giving some eggs to family, friends and families in need. I have alot of people who have helped me over the past few years and I thought what better way to repay them then with fresh eggs and next year fresh meat as we plan on some cornish for butcher. I love the idea of sharing and teaching people so much about were it comes from. I love your passion about that. I have LOTS of different breeds as in my signature. I think maybe just keeping track of how many I get ina month and in a year is a valuable learning tool maybe. Or a different color marker for each month?

Lost my post.... Well I hope this is not a repeat,,, I plan on sharing my eggs with family and friends and families in need in my town. I have so many people that have helped me and I want to give back. So next year when we do cornish for butcher I will share that too. I think it is great to teach kids were food comes from and I live for that. Great passion for teaching and sharing. I thinkmaybe I will stick to counting how many I get in a month and in a year. Or maybe a different color marker for each month

not sure of the exact age of our hens but i know they are getting close to having eggs !!! The wife and i are getting very "EGG"cited about what is to come as far as filling the fridge and our son is ready to see them all the baby isnt old enough yet to enjoy the festivities but i am sure he will grow right into the "egg"citement

She has laid every single day around 11am since her third egg on the 23rd. Her first two eggs were a wee 39g. The egg she laid this morning was a dainty 49g. I am tracking all of this info in a spreadsheet... because I am a gigantic nerd.

I am hoping to start stamping some brown and green or blue eggs soon!

the weather is crazy here on the delmarVa, ESVA, Eastern Shore of Virginia!!


The "Hen Hotel" is full here at our house (we even let Bluie the Roo in!) the birdies are doing well! all fed up today and they have plenty of water to drink in the run!! we keep looking through the window to check on the birdies but they are tucked into the "Hotel" nice and dry!
