I'm patiently waiting for one of my girls to grace me with my first ever egg. They're between 16-18wks old, a few of their combs and wattles have reddened and lord knows there's all sorts of "hanky panky" going on with the roosters, lol. So I figure it should be soon... I hope! I fixed up their nesting box today and put bright colored plastic eggs in there as they roosted tonight. I wish I could be there when they first see that, heehee.
It was pretty neat when I put it in there, some of the hens were suspiciously checking it out when my alpha roo walked in and went right over to it checked it out quick then laid down next to it and made cooing noises. Kudos to him for helping!
My girls are 18 weeks old. Let the countdown begin.
3 DOMs
2 SS
2 BA
I expected the Dominiques to be the best foragers, but it's the SS and BA that coming running through the get when I let them into the rest of the yard. The Doms stick together and I think they are at the bottom of the pecking order. I have one of each breed that has bright red waddles and combs and all of them have been noisy for the last week. We'll see which breed starts egging first. Any guesses?
What are BA again?
Between SS (speckled Sussex) and the Doms, I would think the SS would be first. But i am totally guessing.
Yes and yay for the first timers.my first egg FINALLY after 8 weeks of feeding my MMc pullets Betty White came in with a beautiful tiny 1 3/8 oz blue green egg!
