Hello, I found my girl's first egg this morning (I hugged her and told her she is a woman now :) )

Her first egg is, of course tiny. She has a boyfriend (my first male, as I am not allowed roosters in my area). I know they "play" in the water and I assume they are mating when they do. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if these tiny eggs are fertile? Has anyone ever hatched one? Would the baby be little?

First eggs can be fertile, and it is possible to hatch an egg that is smaller than what a hen will lay later, but more eggs will be coming. The smaller eggs don't always hatch. Waiting until the eggs are full size before trying to hatch them will give the ducklings a better chance of hatching successfully.

First eggs can be fertilised, but it isnt a good idea to hatch very small eggs, its best to wait until her eggs become more consistent and a healthier size

Drakes do not reach maturity as fast as the girls do (at least mine haven't). They also aren’t always good at mating in the beginnning. So, I doubt your egg is fertile. Even if it is, it would be wise to wait until you get bigger eggs to have healthier ducklings as others have said. In the mean time, duck eggs are really yummy. When you open them, look for the white dot on the yolk, if it is tiny -infertile, but if it is large it is fertile (see picture below, top one is infertile, bottom is fertile).
