New chicken person! We thought we were sold Rhode Island Reds, but I was assured by every commenter on another post that they are not RIR. Well, one of these laid the egg. It is very exciting!!

Edit: I found two more eggs later on in the day. Do I need to do anything to make them stronger? These obviously haven’t grown a shell and are very soft. Can I eat the one that isn’t compromised?

Yes you can eat it, make sure it is cooked just to be sure.

It is not uncommon when they begin to lay to have a few glitches like soft shells intermittently for the first couple of weeks. Put the flock on layer feed, or add oystershtll on the side.
