I finally found my first egg yesterday & another today. They were both very small, I'd say about half as heavy as my store bought extra large eggs. The chickens are wyandottes. Thanks!

pullet eggs are usually smaller when they start. As the hen gets better at laying eggs, they will increase in size. I have already seen a big change in my orp eggs since they started laying in the past few weeks.

When my chickens started laying last summer, we got eggs sporadically- sometimes small, sometimes GIANT, sometimes dark brown, sometimes pale pink. Sometimes 5 eggs from 4 hens, sometimes none. It seems to me like they work out the kinks over time. My eggs are not necessarily bigger now (I used to get weird oblong ones with two yolks, and monster sized ones with very brittle shells), but they are pretty much all uniform in size and color. Now I have 3 hens laying (1 broody on a clutch), and I get 3 perfectly tan, medium sized eggs every day. So fun!

I have a friend with a very very very old hen, who still lays 1-2 monster sized eggs most weeks.

They may have been "wind" or "fart" eggs.

My Gold laced wyandotte layed large + eggs.
