First egg of 2022!

I walked out. The ladies were free-ranging, and the only one missing was my dear Dominique Pepper, the one who is obviously my layer.
She wasn’t in the comfy, straw-filled nest, which scared the crap out of me.
I was pacing about, wondering where on earth she could be, when I heard the scrape of claws on wood right above me.
We have a 10- ft tall wooden deck, attached to our house.

Miss Pepper climbed up all those stairs, all the way up, so she could nest in our Christmas tree.View attachment 2953451View attachment 2953453View attachment 2953455
Aw! Poor baby, I bet she was cold!!

I got an egg from one of my Dom girls, shockingly early in the year. I’m happy!View attachment 2952995View attachment 2952996
Congrats! My barred rock Cookie started laying small little eggs 3 weeks before she turmed 6 mos. Now we get about one a day and they are still small 5 weeks later.
A few days ago my Buff Orpington, Twinkie aka Goldy turned 6 mos and on that day she laid a nice BIG egg!!! Since then they've all been small like Cookies. Is this normal?????

It was probably a double yolk egg! Common in new layers. Congrats!

Congratulations

We haven't cracked it yet. It is big. But why all the really small eggs? 28+ small eggs. The pic is of our first ever egg but they are all like that. When can we expect regular size eggs??
It happens gradually. They're still teenagers - they're just getting started.
You'll have bigger eggs by spring.
