We have 6 Easter egger pullets who are 19 weeks old as of Saturday. To my suprise I found 2 eggs in one nesting box yesterday! Yay! I had a sneaking suspicion which girl layed them, she's been squatting. Today she is breaking my heart. She's going in and out of the chicken house, picking through all 6 boxes, and clucking very loudly at the other hens. Is she looking for her eggs? Does she need to lay another? What can I do?

I will be quite interested in the responses you receive, having a similar circumstance. i mostly just sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

There is one small EE pullet that jumps into one particular nest box fluffs and arranges the bedding, sits for a few minutes, jumps back out, squawks and starts over. She will do this for a long-long time. I have 4 Aussies- 22 weeks old, 10 EE -21 weeks, and 5 Aussies -18 weeks. Had one Aussie that started laying at 18 weeks, but she lays only about 2 to 3 very small eggs per week. In the past 2 weeks at least 5- EE have started laying. Averaging 4-5 greens and 1-2 browns per day. Most are very small. Hoping the sizes will increase with time

7 on the right are today's bounty so far.

Last weeks

Sizes compared to the last store bought white eggs.

I'm going to check back on this post later. My girls are getting close to laying age so I'm trying to gather information. That would break my heart too

She layed again just a bit ago. Im thinking she just wanted the other girls to give her some privacy. Lol. She was making such a fuss tgat our silkie roo was crowing right along with her.

Lovely eggs btw! our layer, nugget, is laying peachy colored eggs. The other 5 girls have pea and rose combs so I'm hoping for an olive egger in the flock. Nugget is the only one with a large comb and waddles.

Congrats!! Exciting isn't it. My sister-in-law says "only you two (my brother and myself) can get excited about chicken stuff". She obviously hasn't been to this site. Got another egg today, 7 total, two Aussies and 5 EEs laying so far. Guessing it was the spaz.

very exciting! I had my first chicken as an assignment back in high school and have loved them since. They are like feathered children. I called my mother when we found our first eggs, she said congrats youre a grandma! Hehe

Happy to report things have calmed down in the coop, we're getting a pretty pink egg from lady nugget every day. And I'm just thrilled that we got a nice blue egg today, WOOHOO! Not sure who layed it but I have a suspect in mind.
