First Egg Questions

One of our Barred Rock pullets was missing yesterday, and after a brief amount of searching, I found her in the coop, SITTING on her first egg! She gave me heck when I took it from her, and afterward was still sitting until I kicked her out. Then she ate and drank a bunch and sulked under a table. So was she brooding? And how long will she be upset at having been kicked off the nest?

No, she was just resting. Some hens will sit on the nest longer than others.

Thanks, Happy Chooks. I was surprised that a feed store BR would behave so possessively about her egg. That makes a LOT more sense. So next time should I just leave her be in there until she gets up of her own accord?

I would just leave her be. She'll get out of the nest when she's ready. You can still reach under her and grab eggs though.
