So, I went out to shut the pop door around dusk last night.. I glanced down in the grass by the ramp and there it was.. Took me a second to process what I was looking at, but sure enough...it was a pretty brown egg, and a big'un at that. Good sturdy shell, too.
We snapped a few pictures, then cracked it open -- double yolk!
The pullets were 128 days old yesterday...Rhode Island Reds. I really thought I had another week or two before I had to build the nest boxes, but I guess someone decided it was time. That project just got bumped up to this Saturday.
We had to eat it, of course...even though we'd just had dinner. It was pretty tasty, with super yellow yolks. I've never seen such a clear egg white in all my life, either.
