First egg...really surprised!

So, I went out to shut the pop door around dusk last night.. I glanced down in the grass by the ramp and there it was.. Took me a second to process what I was looking at, but sure enough...it was a pretty brown egg, and a big'un at that. Good sturdy shell, too.

We snapped a few pictures, then cracked it open -- double yolk!

The pullets were 128 days old yesterday...Rhode Island Reds. I really thought I had another week or two before I had to build the nest boxes, but I guess someone decided it was time. That project just got bumped up to this Saturday.

We had to eat it, of course...even though we'd just had dinner. It was pretty tasty, with super yellow yolks. I've never seen such a clear egg white in all my life, either.

Congratulations! I got my first egg yesterday! If it was big, you might want to look around for the small ones that usually show up first!

WOW!! Congratulations!!

My RIRs are 16 weeks old. I thought I had another month before I would get eggs. But you have given me HOPE!!!

Congrats!! I found my first egg from one of my RIRs too! They were 20 weeks on Tues. And it was on the ground behind the ramp! Mine was smallish & a light pinkish tan. Now just waiting on the others!

ETA: Our 10 yr old son is on vacation with his grandparents, so I was instructed I couldn't eat it, I have to bring it with me when we meet up with them tomorrow
