Either our Rhode Island Red or Wyandotte laid her first egg today- we don’t know which it was. The egg is light brown and perfect but it seems small. Will the eggs get bigger as the hen gets bigger? Thanks!

Congratulations! It will. Mine started a little small. Now they are consistent large eggs most of the time but occasionally we find a smaller or odd shaped egg

The first is always itty bitty. I remember when I found our first egg. I almost stepped on it since they dropped it in the dirt. They’ll get bigger as the hen starts laying more and more.

Yes, 'pullet eggs' are smaller.
It can takes days to weeks to months for them to get to a 'large' size.
Some birds may never lay 'large' eggs.
