My 3 year old and I went out to let the chickens out this morning at 7 and found a small egg in the nesting box next to the golf balls! WOO HOO!

It came from Heddie, the Barred Plymouth Rock who has been squatting for about a week.

We scrambled it up and it was yummy. I'm so excited!

It's on the left, of course.

Congrats!!!
Nice egg, love your pictures! I can't wait for my first egg!!!
How old are your chickens?

Oops, now I noticed the age of your chickens! Mine are about six weeks younger than yours.

I got my first egg today also from my Barred Rock (have 5) so came from 1 of them!!! (They are 1 day from being 19 weeks old.)

I have never had chickens before and immedatley thought to myself, "I got an egg, what do I do with it now? Can I put it in the fridge? Duh, its an egg!" I put it in an egg carton and put it in the fridge for Hubby and son to see when they come home!

I thought I might get another egg today, but none so far. Heddie, the one who laid one yesterday, ran to the nest box and jumped in when I came to let everyone out this morning. She starting screaming "Bawk Bawk Buckaaaaawwwww!" for about 5 minutes but never laid an egg. It's 3 hours later and now she's out roaming with the other chickens - no eggs.

Weird.
