Finally, our first egg! My barred rock came through (5 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days, but who's counting). [IMG] Earlier today, we had a hawk emergency. Az, my barred rock flew at the window to let me know that something was up. The neighborhood hawk was in the pine tree looking for lunch. I quickly put the girls back in the covered pen.

I just went to let them out again for some free ranging and that's when I found the egg. It looks like she checked out both nesting boxes (the golf balls were moved around a bit) but in the end decided to lay it in the sleeping area. Guess that's something we can work on - now that the eggs are actually coming.

    Thanks!

I was beginning to think my girls were just destined to be non-layers. Is there such a thing? Chickens from another planet? As it is my oldest girl, a Phoenix (three days shy of seven months - but who's counting) has yet to produce an egg. Guess she's just a late bloomer. [IMG]
