My chickens are 16 weeks old, so I thought I had another month or more to get the nest boxes built. But this morning Emily didn't come out of the coop when I opened it, so I looked in and found her hunkered down in the corner, putting bedding on her back and squawking!! When she left, there was my VERY FIRST EGG! About half the size of a grocery-store egg, but an egg, nevertheless!!! I'm beside myself with excitement!

She laid (she LAID!!) in the corner by where the nest boxes will be, so I'm hoping she'll transition easily to them. Is that realistic?

Squeeeeee!!!

Good girl!! She should transition just fine. imo

Yes she will do great. Congrats! I had nest boxes and my EE laid her 1st on the ground. But she got it right after that. The first egg is the sweetest !!!
