First Egg!!!

Put the nest box where it is convenient for you and accessible for her - the exact location will vary depending on the interior of your coop --- photos and/or a sketch could help pinpoint good choices for your particular setup.

Put fake eggs or golf balls in the nesting boxes. That helps them get the idea. When all of them start laying, they'll all want to lay in the same box, even to the point of scratching the fake eggs into the box as well! Silly girls.

I found a small, white pullet egg in my girls' nesting box yesterday. Our first egg! I have 3 white leghorns, so it came from one of them. I'm waiting for my EE and other brown egg layers to start. There are 24 of them and they are 20 weeks old last Friday. My older girls are still laying too.

I have a first egg question.

When you get a first year egg from an older hen is it misshapen?

Like their egg maker has to get back into practice.

This is another egg that I think looks like the eggs the hen I think layed the one above and next to it. It is the bigger one.

Yes, they can be misshapen. I get a weird one now and again, and mine have been laying since November. I still get double yolk eggs too.
