Hello! I have had my chickens since March 18,2017, and my red sex link just laid the first egg out of all six of my chickens!! I'm so proud of her, especially since she has been my little baby since day 1. Her name is Bertha and is definitely one of my more motherly looking chickens. I love her so much and today she made me SO proud.

However, I did have a question, when I flipped over the egg to inspect it, there was a brownish streak down the side. I'm not sure if this is normal or what, since it is her first egg and it could've torn her vent?

Nice egg! I don't see any brown streak. I'm sure it's fine though, I've had a spot of blood one time and it never happened again.
I did not have a picture of the brown streak.. here is one however..

Wow, 12 weeks! That is early! It's hard to tell if it's a little bit of blood or possibly a little dirt/poop. Either way, both egg and hen should be fine.

Ok, so I feel awful that I've been going around parading that she was only 12 weeks when she started laying... and I guess I was just so excited when it happened that I TOTALLY miscounted the weeks - she was 15 weeks..
