YEA! We had been on egg watch for a few weeks - nothing. Then as a practical joke I placed a small purple "Easter Egg" the grandchildren had in their sandbox in the coop. After which, I gave the girls a talking to about their promise to provide breakfast in exchange for food and shelter. I was beginning to think I may be raising supper instead of breakfast. But, well, supper is a one time commitment and I was looking for a longer relationship. The next day we had our first real egg. The shell is much thicker than store bought eggs - which has now been taken off my list of things to buy at the local grocery. My grandchildren and I are looking forward to many egg gathering excursions. My 4 year old loves to cook and now I can let him cook breakfast for all of us (with a little adult supervision - he's not Masterchef quality yet!)
