First egg!!!!!

OK. I didn't look closely at the egg. I wouldn't eat it either :sick
Do you have other pullets getting ready to lay?
It may be time to switch to layer feed. Especially if the next egg is shell-less.
They have been on layer feed since they were 18 weeks old and I give them yogurt twice a week with plenty of protein. I have one other that will lay very soon as well. Thanks for the advice though!:thumbsup

Update: she Layed another egg! It’s a little miscolored but that’s alright. I’m excited to eat this one!

Congratulations!
What breed laid that egg? Probably your Sussex. That's the right color for a Sussex.
I thought maybe my Rhode Island Red? My Sussex hasn’t grown a lot, she hasn’t checked out the nesting boxes, and her comb is barely pink. She could have just laid and I wasn’t expecting it! If dint even think it might be another chicken! Is it possible for the first few to be miscolored?

This is my first time raising chickens and.... I GOT MY FIRST EGG!!!!!!!! I’m super eggcited, and even though I know the first few are inedible, I’m still psyched! My Rhode Island Red laid the egg, she had all the signs and she was squatting and checking out the boxes. Unfortunately I am out of town right now, but my dad was a home and sent this picture! She is eggzactly 5 months old yesterday when she laid the egg and I hope the rest use the nesting box right away!View attachment 1495434

Congrats! It is so exciting, I though I would just die when I got my first eat a day after they turned 5 months. I sent out a post on BYC and everyone was "be patient it is still early" and the very next day! I just got 5 baby Rhode Island Reds..very excited! And, as far as I know you can eat the first eggs...as long as there isn't something wrong but no problem eating their first eggs-so enjoy!

I wish you and your chicks the very best!

I got my first egg on Sunday and have had a little green one every day since! My EE is the only one participating at the moment.....

Ooh, very pretty! Congrats on the first egg! I just love seeing all the different colors, I only have Barred Rocks and OEGB laying tan-light brown eggs and the OEGB are a soft cream color.

We have two RIR who haven't laid yet but their combs and wattles were always darker than my SS even now. I noticed her wattle is so much bigger now that she's laying.
I know its not a great picture but I caught her laying today after I heard the egg song!

I switched my Sebrights to laying feed at 3 months. They laid there first eggs this week, just over 5 months. I have 4 for the week with 5 pullets. All shells are good.
