Iris, my standard Cochin, is laying her first egg! It's the first egg of ANY of my girls has EVER laid! I am at work and ridiculously busy, but my hubby is home and keeps sending me recordings of her egg song! She is being very dramatic and carrying on, but I am so eggcited! I wish I was home...
How exciting!! I'd be hovering outside like it was my own!![]()
Put fake eggs in the nests...and don't let her free range. Now if I can just get her to use the nesting box....
I've been ridiculously busy at work, so I've been MIA from BYC lately. But I got egg #2, in the nest this time! I've had fake eggs in there for about a month. All I did was put her in the nest. Voila! She took to it.Put fake eggs in the nests...and don't let her free range.
Not really a 'fairy egg'.....looks pretty good sized actually.
Congrats, nothing like taht very first egg out of your own backyard!!!
Any new pullet eggs still get me going...if not

Those are really small...are you sure she's not a bantam?Question: How long are the eggs teensy? I don't mind them, but I'm wondering if there's a reason they are teensy (other than that these are her first eggs). The shells are gorgeous, smooth, evenly colored, and appropriately thick.
Def not a bantam. She's as large as my brahma (at just under 24 weeks). Those are really small...are you sure she's not a bantam?
My first pullet eggs are about 30-35 grams...some get larger fast than others...most take a couple months to get u the a 'large'(57grams).
Yes.Or is this wait and see situation?
Good idea. Will do with the subsequent eggs. The first ones have already been consumed.Yes.
Good to weigh egg and take pic with a quarter.
