First egg!

Just wanted to share that one of our amberlinks laid our first egg today! Nineteen weeks and three days. My eleven year old has taken over chicken tending duties and he is just elated! I have cautioned him that it will take a couple of weeks for them to get into a routine so there may not be any eggs tomorrow, but he is just sure that this is the start of a good thing! We had to tell someone and knew the fine folks here would share our enthusiasm!

My grandmother says there will be some double yolks while the hens work the kinks out of their system. We shall see!

What a great way to share this experience. My chicks are only 9 weeks old, so I'm still waiting for that first egg. I'm sure I will be as excited as your 11 year old.

He had a bad experience with a dog when he was just a little guy-neighbors puppy came barreling through our yard wanting to play and knocked him down. Scared him pretty bad and for years he wouldn't even go outside without a grown-up outside with him. Tending to the chickens has really helped him. I watch from the window but act like I'm not! Seeing him celebrate that first egg was exciting for all of us!
