First egg!

I opened the back door and my hen Pearl dashed in and ran back to my bedroom and hopped up on the bed and began frantically scratching around my pillows making the sweetest sounds. Pretty sure she's about to lay her first! So excited! lol I gave her a small basket on top of my laundry. She's busy fluffing nest and looking focused. She groaned a little and is quiet now. How long does it usually take to pop that first one one they hit the nest box? Just wondering if I should worry if it goes on too long?

BTW, I assume it's clear I'm a first time chicken owner. lol

It can take a while, up to probably about an hour, but every pullet is different. Congratulations! There's nothing like a first egg!

How did she know where your bedroom was

Lol Well, I kept three chickens and 7 guineas from 2 weeks to 6 weeks in my bathroom at night while I built a ckn coop I was sure would only take me a week at most. lol Pearl would visit me in my room till everyone one else settled down. She also decided a a couple months ago that she wanted to be inside at night. lol She comes in evenings and visits and puts hetself to bed in a big birdcage we have in the living room. I've been wondering where to put a nest box for her. Guess I know where now. lol
