First egg

Only one of my two EE's lays a green egg. Although Evie's eggs are pretty "regular" looking light brown eggs, she is personally just as lovely as her sister, Audrey. (I will never let Evie know her eggs are a bit disappointing).

Both of them are usually on the "naughty" list; they have not only figured out how to escape into the pastures with the ruminants to eat the goat-sheep food, they have taught their coop mate, a Sapphire Gem, to do the same. Yours are friendly; mine are devious!

Chickens are naturally curious and will peck at EVERYTHING. Once they learn how tasty eggs are, it can be hard to break them of egg-eating. One method that sometimes works is to add a few artificial eggs so that pecking at them provides no reward.

That said, it can be impossible to keep them from ever eating another egg. In one of my coops, there's no problem until somebody decides to lay an egg while roosting. As soon as the egg hits the floor, it's attacked by a flock of hens who devour it in no time.

Hopefully, Mario learns that nest boxes are better places for eggs. Also, she gets into a more regular schedule of when she lays, you can madly dash out and rescue her eggs before anyone decides to eat them.

One of 4 Easter eggers laid the first egg. A beautiful blue egg. So excited!
Her name is Mario and she was trying to lay her first egg for 2 hours this morning.
I saw her going into the nesting box from the coop camera.
They did not play around the nesting boxes at all so I knew it's time.
I hope other girls would lay eggs in different colors.

Congratulations! We are so excited too! Our 2 EE's just laid their first egg (lovely blue!) last week within a day of each other (Jan 18 or so). They were born on April 18, and we were losing hope, lol! Wondered WHEN they would start to lay~

She is 26 weeks old. Her egg is still very small. I guess she needs to grow more.

Mine have been laying for about 4 months. The EEs eggs are very inconsistent. They still lay small eggs about a third of the time. I also have Rhode Island Reds and they are all producing good sized eggs.

That egg is a nice color. All of mine are a bit more pale than that.
