I am SO excited one of my australorps finally laid an egg!
I feel bad since they are still on chick crumble due to budget and All Flock being harder to find where I live. I am going to switch them over as soon as I can find a bag and supplement with some form of calcium (oyster shells are also real hard to find)

Try Tractor Supply or order it online. Congratulations on your first egg! Mine are still young, so I'm looking forward to my babies firsts! How old is the one that played the egg?

Keeping them on starter/grower isn't a problem as long as they have access to crushed oyster shells.

Yup. When you do find new feed, try mixing for a few days to get them used to the new feed.

The oyster shell is important at this point. Try to find some ASAP. She's fine at the moment, but without extra calcium, she will start pulling calcium from her bones for the eggs. One partial solution is to take shells from your eggs, allow them to dry and crush them into smallish pieces. Your chickens won't produce enough to fulfill their needs, but if you have store-bought eggs right now, I'd save and use those shells.

Either way- oyster shell, crushed egg shell or both, be sure to serve them "on the side". The girls that need calcium will be attracted to it and the others may nibble, but not spend much time there.

Yeah, its the worst timing since I am going to be gone for a week!
Going to have to order and see if my house sitter can introduce it.

No- on the side only. You can't mix it to the exact right percentage of feed. They will self-regulate their eating. Active layers will be interested in it. Others may nibble, but not really eat much.
