First Egg!!

I didn’t think it would EVER happen but it finally did!!! I got my first egg ever! We are so excited about it. I just hope there is another waiting on me today

. I do have two others that look like they are getting ready to lay.

This is a picture of the young hen that laid the egg, Stripes. She just turned 19 weeks old today and she is a Gold Sex Link.

Here is the first egg, yes she did lay it in the nesting box!! It is brown with a few white streaks in it.

Here is her egg next to a store bought egg, I couldn’t believe how big her first egg was! Poor girl.

Yea! Isn't it great? I keep wondering when the excitement will wear off. It has been a week and I am still making a big fuss out of each and every egg!

When I first saw the egg I was so excited that I ran to the house to get the camera and both of my kids thought I was crazy. Then I told them what happened they both ran out to the chicken coop to take a look too!

I haven’t decided what to do with the $1000 egg yet. My mom suggested making a cake or something so that everyone gets some. For now it is in my fridge. My daughter wants to just “keep it” but I don’t think we can do that.

You could keep it, in a way. When you go to cook with it, blow it out instead of cracking it. Then you can keep the shell.

Poke a small hole in one end and a little larger hole in the other end. Blow on the small end hole and it will come out the other. It does get a bit scrambled when it comes out, so you wouldn't be able to use it for frying.

How EXCITING! We got our first FOUR yesterday. As of 12:00 today, nothing.
