I'm so EGG-cited, Caramel (15 week RIR/Leghorn), laid her first egg(s) yesterday!
I noticed her comb was getting red, in comparison to her sister, and her bottom a bit wide and mentioned it to my family that she might lay soon but my husband said it was too early for her. I found her in the squatting position the other day in the coop but no egg. Yesterday, the same thing, but when I went to go check on her, she had a beautiful egg under her! She looked exhaused and didn't seem to know what to do as she kept looking at the egg then me. After bringing in the egg and taking photos, I checked on her once again, only to find she had laid a cute mini egg! What a suprise! When I was inside, taking more pics, I heard her announcing her new eggs to the neighborhood. I was so proud of her!
My husband couldn't believe she laid two eggs and thought for sure one was from our other hens.

comparisons: quarter, ping pong, first egg!

This morning we found 2 mini eggs that were both soft shelled.
Thank you BYC for always providing me a wealth of information as I am new to raising chickens. I'm so glad I found your site because I feel as if it prepares me for each new stage in the life of my chickens.
