These birds are 9 mos old, and today I got my first egg. The hen that layed it has dug a hole in the ground, and every day that I go out to the pen she's laying in it. Could she be using this for a nest? I'll see where she lays the other eggs. I have an incubator ready, and was just going to put some duck eggs into it when I found the egg today. I wasn't sure these birds were going to lay eggs, so I thought I would test the incubator with something else, and got some duck eggs from a friend. Good thing I made two incubators.

No live grass in your "pen" tells me it's too small.

Also, tossing their food onto the contaminated ground is asking for problems.
Those pellets should be in a place where they will not get wet or dirty.

To answer the question yes they excavate a hollow or hole and nest/ lay there in most cases unless they take a particular liking to some structure in their pen--- nest box, etc...

i gave mine two cornors with brush to lay under and a nest box one hen would lay in one spot all the time the other crazy hen would lay them any where in the wide open

but reeves their tails look to be in good shape so the pen is not to small, besides how do you know their is not "live" grass growing behide the camera un less you have been to the guys house you dont

That egg looks kinda white to me.Is there any other birds in this pen?A ringnecks egg is an olive green or blueish green.Unless the lighting is bad that looks totally white to me.

My Ring-necks lay white eggs every now and then, but it isn't very often. I only have one hen that lays a greenish/blue egg and the rest lay various shades of brown. Some darker than others, but white isn't unheard of in Ring-necks. I tried to hatch a couple one year and they were infertile, so now I fry the white ones in a skillet when I get them. Which isn't very often but it does happen.

after taking the eggs from the pen the birds stopped laying, so I had heard that someone here on the forums had birds that quit after taking eggs out, and put a golf ball in the cage, and they started laying again, so I tried it, and they both layed eggs the same day.
