Yay! We got our first egg today!

Appears to have a lil high calcium.. But the local farmer here says that will even out the more she lays! But otherwise? It looks great! Hard, complete shell! I can't break it open to check the inside until my son gets home from work and gets to see it.. but I just had to chime in here!

I have 6 Golden comets that just turned 18 weeks old and I just got my 1st two eggs but they are a lot smaller than I expected. From what I understand they are suppose to be large to extra large eggs. I am going to start them on layer food tomorrow. Is this normal just starting out??? Will they get bigger as time goes y and start them on the layer food?

That is completely normal to get small eggs to start. I have 4 RSL, 3 laying. 1 has been laying for 2 weeks now and her eggs are normal size. 2 that have been laying about 1 week are still a little small but growing!

A chicken's first eggs will be small, but will eventually get bigger, especially after they molt and will continue to lay slightly bigger eggs then before.

Congratulations! I just found our first egg yesterday. Found another one today that looks different than the first. So, I probably have two girls laying now. Only problem is that they are laying on the poop board, not in the lovely nests with the fake eggs in them. Any suggestions?
