Hi, i have 2 hens that are 5 months old and one of them have lay is first egg today. :p
Like you can see, it have a strange shape and its not in their laying basket. Is it normal that the first egg have this shape ??
And should i put it in their laying basket so they learn where to go for laying the next one ??

Congrats on getting that 1st egg!

Sometimes an egg will be a little odd shaped, that's not uncommon when a girl first begins laying and her 'plumbing' is just beginning to function. And sometimes that first egg will be in a random place because the hen just doesn't quite realize what is going on. You might want to put a fake egg or golf ball in the nesting box so they get the idea of where to drop the next ones.

Again, congratulations!

GOT OUR FIRST EGG YESTERDAY, AND IN THE NEST BOX , KINDA SMALL, BLUE COLOR , BUT STRONG SHELL AND TASTED GREAT.

Ok thanks !!

Theres a second egg in the coop :p
So both hens have lay egg.

The other egg have a regular shape but is very small.

Can i eat thoses to egg ??
I long can it stay in the coop before put it in the refridgerator ??

Sometimes those 1st eggs will be small but will get bigger as your girl gets into the swing of things. I'd eat both of those eggs your girls had so far. You need to pick up the eggs out of the nesting boxes at least once a day (or more if you can)...eggs laying around are a temptation for predators or at risk of getting broken or pooped on. As far as how long to keep them out, I have let ours sit on the counter about a week (unwashed) before putting them in the refrigerator...but ours rarely last that long.

There was 2 others eggs today. One was in the coop floor and i found the other one in my backyard near the stair of my house.
I have put 2 golf ball in the nesting box but i dont now how long it will take to my chicken to understand that they have to lay in their box.

Should i limit the hens to go only in the run by the time they learn where to lay eggs ??
