FIRST EGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!

Got my first egg today! So excited! Wasn't expecting any till spring!

(It's the one on the left, I was comparing it to store bought)

Anyone else get an egg (or more) today? Post a pic!

Yes, I got a first egg (of the clutch) from one of my serama hens. I don't collect their pigeon egg size eggs, but rather, leave them in the nest to be brooded when the clutch is complete. The hen has several all most weaned chicks from her last clutch. She will continue to care for the chicks until the new clutch of eggs is complete (6-8 eggs)-then start brooding again.

I was quite pleased to see her on the nest and then an egg. Her chicks weigh just 14 grams when they hatch.

I usually get 7 a day. Today it was 5, but we are in the colder months so I expect them to slow down a bit.

Most of my eggs this past month have gone into the incubator

You can expect to get even larger eggs in time from this hen. 1st eggs are often smaller.

View attachment 1959815 I have 2 SLWyandotte's, 2 Barred Rocks, and 1 Buff Orpington. All 22 week old pullets and both of my Barred Rocks have started laying! The first one started laying at 18 weeks & 1 day and the other started laying at 21 weeks & 5 days. I had 2 beautiful brown eggs (1 dark and 1 light), although small, since my girls are young, in the nest box this afternoon!

Gorgeous eggs! Both of my olive Eggers ended up being cockerels, so I am a little jealous
