Just a quick post to show how each chicken is different. One of the Buff Orpingtons (16 weeks) looks way older than the rest and low and behold, today she popped out a small egg. A few of the chickens have been singing the egg-laying song for about two weeks now.

And in the time it took to start this post, our other BO just laid her first small egg. Our flock has not even switched to layer feed yet. Must be something in the water? :) Now I need to scramble to get the nest boxes built.

Has anyone else seen such early egg-laying from multiple chickens at the same time?

Our Flock: (2) 16 week old Buff Orpingtons, (3) barred Rocks, and (2) 15 week old Delawares. San Jose, CA

My 5 Golden Comets started to lay at 16.5 weeks, all were laying by 19 weeks.
My 7 Barred Rocks were slackers. They didn't start laying until 20 weeks, all were laying by 23 weeks.
I have 5 ISA Browns 14 weeks old.

I'm gonna show them your post. Hopefully they'll start laying soon.

Do you have Oyster Shells out for your girls?, in a separate container.
