I already enjoyed my chickens and love them dearly, but there is a special kind of feeling when you see that first egg in the box for the first time.. i not only found 1 egg, but 2. They were small and in the same box. 1 was broken, but i could tell no one pecked at it. There must have been a weak spot and the hen who laid second must have accidently made the hole. I feel like a proud chicken mama and all the sweat and hard work making the coop and planting special plants for them has paid off.. we just put in our nesting box on tuesday and it was such a pleasant surprise to see those eggs! Oh how i love my chickens!
This morning before i went to check on the chickens, i pulled 3 store bought eggs out of the fridge, leaving 2 left. Talk about perfect timing!
So some advice, are the first eggs ok to eat?! I already disposed of the cracked egg. I will start to offer them extra calcium, either egg shells or oyster. I think part of the egg was weaker than the other part because i could see a darker spot on the egg.
