first eggs this week, but they’re on the floor

I have several nests and they only use the ones that “have a roof”, I guess they like to fit there and be covered. Maybe if you hadd a piece of wood over the nests they like it more? Or maybe it’s just my girls that like that

I had some issues with mine laying in the corners or in the run. I put 3 ceramic eggs in a couple boxes. They never laid in corners again.

i have four nest boxes and bought four ceramic eggs. i put two eggs in one box and one each in two others.

I know mine like a covered spot or at the very least somewhere dark. The absolute favorite spot for most of mine is a little garbage can. It worked out pretty good when Red Girl went broody before I had doors on the coop. I'd shut it at night and set a block infront so nothing could get in and during the day the chicks had no problem getting in and out.

she’s laid 4 eggs in the same spot now. im starting to think she likes the shelter the corner of the coop (under the nest boxes) provides.

i think a roof on the boxes is the trick.

yeah i figured as much. that only sucks because the space under the boxes provides additional floor space in the coop.

Block space about 2' x 2'.
