First Eggs!!

I have 6 game cameras...been thinking of setting one up on the nests. Been quite awhile since any predators...(knock on wood) I get zillions of coon pics every night during deer season also weekly bobcat and coyote shots. So far no problems with my newly built coop...when the wife mentioned how much time/money I spent on it, I told her it was not just a coop but better tornado shelter than the house! I got the eye roll....

Same here. My daughter already asked if she can live in the coop when we don't have chickens (um, no.). My mom has her eyes on it for a storage shed. W/ how well it's built it'll be there forever. I've thought about getting a trail camera, but they're more expensive than I expected but I would like to know what's roaming. We had a suspected coyote take off w/ one of our ladies. We've seen deer, opossum, a neighbor across the street saw a bear a few weeks ago, & my parents have been trapping raccoons all summer. Our wifi doesn't work well out by the coop so that won't work well for us to hook up a camera there.. plus we lack electricity at the moment... backhoe virus. I'd love to have a camera on the boxes though. I stuck a plastic egg in one of the boxes this afternoon. They moved it around a bit so we'll see if it worked. My bantam laid in a different box yesterday, but the usual one today. I suspect someone was in the box when it was time for her to lay so she made due.

Got two laying now and caught both of them on the nest this morning the one I suspected of laying first was Ginger she lays a very olive egg with a slight orange peel texture to the shell. My other hen lays a considerably lighter green and smoother shell. So the only holdout the white hen is my last hope for a blue egg...she seems to have the most ameraucauna type traits with the earflaps and muffs she also seems to be the dominant of the three since I got rid of the roosters...

My game cameras are older but I saw Walmart selling one for $30.
