Daisy, our Dark Cornish is the first of our flock of 8 to lay eggs. She must have laid one yesterday as there was a cold one in the nesting box. I imagine it froze overnight, since it was 24 when we got up. I know it’s not a huge deal, but I half expected them not to lay until spring. Large grocery store egg for comparison. They are chickens after all, but I’m tickled all the same!
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
