First eggs!

Daisy, our Dark Cornish is the first of our flock of 8 to lay eggs. She must have laid one yesterday as there was a cold one in the nesting box. I imagine it froze overnight, since it was 24 when we got up. I know it’s not a huge deal, but I half expected them not to lay until spring. Large grocery store egg for comparison. They are chickens after all, but I’m tickled all the same!

My August 15, Barred Rocks started to lay first week of January, all seven were laying by the third week. I do add lights at 5 am. GC

These girls all hatched in June, so they’re 28 & 29 weeks old. Their run is covered by a dark tarp, so they probably need more light. I’m going to wait until spring to tackle that...at least it’s warm and dry.

Super Congratulations!! A couple of my 6 mos. old pullets started laying a week or so ago. The little eggs are so cute.
