First eggs....

Back in May I ordered 30 chickens from McMurray and still have most of them (some I sold). Shortly after that I bought 6 chickens, 1 of which was a 2 yr old hen that laid us an egg the first day she was here with us (cool!). We were all excited as it was our first egg we ever got. Last week I got a RSL of laying age, she laid an egg in the box and just laid us a second one today, a week later. Ironically, she has started laying again, the same time as the first egg layer has gone broody! So I am still back to 1 random egg.

I know these 2 older gals are still my chickens, but is it normal to feel like I haven't really gotten that 'First' egg yet? I guess I hadn't expected to get laying hens before my original girls got old enough to lay. But I find myself impatiently waiting for one of them to start laying, even though there is usually already an egg to collect.

I personally think half the fun of "first eggs" is raising the chicks and watching approach point of lay..... just like those first steps your children take on their own.... ;D

I can totally relate, I'm still waiting for my 'babies' to lay their first eggs....I feel like an expectant grandmother or something! Glad to know it's not just me!
