i wonder if my ducks have been laying and i mistook them for the chicken eggs since the chickens prefer to lay under the raised coup in the duck bedding. arent the duck eggs noticable larger. would the duck be sitting on the eggs even if she wasnt finished laying all eggs. what color should they be, mine are rouen

I got my first duck egg this morning...so not ready! I am learning that they lay at 17 weeks? I thought I had to wait until 6 months like my chickens! I think it was the mallard, but not sure. I will post a pic...I took it with my phone to show my DD who is with grandma.

I think it has no yolk. I took it next to a chicken egg for comparison.

I just found my first egg in the duck house tonight. Can't figure out how to post a pic from my phone on here
yet, but am a very proud duck mommy:)

Let's try this:

I didn't find an egg yesterday or this morning, but that doesn't mean it's not hiding under the bedding. This first one turned out to be a double-yolker! The other two were more like the size of a jumbo chicken egg. I have a feeling it's from the top girl, Spartacus, who's laying

She's always been the leader of the pack!

I always thought ducks laid later than chickens? Mine are 6 months and no eggs yet
