FIRST EVER GARLIC HARVEST!

I remember planting some bulbils last year. I did have some small heads, and I'm guessing that grew from the bulbils. It'll be interesting to see if they taste particularly different. :thumbsup

Since Music garlic has big (huge, really) cloves, there are only 4 or 5 per bulb. I saved several of the "fivers" to plant at one end of the row this fall, to see if they grow more fivers. That would be nice. I could deal with some smaller cloves to have more of them. Some of my cloves are so big, I'm going to have to cut them in half. The picture below is from last fall. I got a lot of cloves this time that are bigger than what's shown.

Those are some big cloves!:love
From my understanding (I am new to bulbils so forgive me if Im wrong), bulbils take years of replanting to develop into an actual clove of garlic. So Im not too sure if those small heads you are referring to actually came from a first year growth of bulbils. This length of time depends on the variety of garlic, but generally it will only yield a very small single clove year one that has to be replanted for a few consecutive years in a new location before it will develop into a small clove. Remember, no planting garlic/alliums in the same plot two years in a row as this can attract diseases specific to alliums and it gets worse when planted in the same spot year after year.

Mine articles plants are drying nicely, I see the beautiful lush pink and purple shades developing. I have a good variety of sizes some very large bulbs (I assume with my limited experience). On average the bulbs have 4-7 cloves as. Described by most suppliers.
I’ll update after another week when I remove all the roots and outer skins.
It’s been raining and very foggy a ridiculous amount this year. I don’t think I could dry these outside. To aid in drying set up a rack with hardware cloth to lay the garlic on. I purchase a cheap oscillating fan to blow on the rack. I also have a dehumidifier in my garage that I always run all summer. This is working out perfect and I’m sure I’ll dry my onions the same way.

Well I’m a little late but the my garlic dried nicely and we’ve been using it Mmm! I shared a bit with family and friends and no doubt will share more. I’ll be storing it and picking out my seed for October after I see how it performs while in storage. I’ve included a couple of pictures. The coins are a Canadian one and two dollar (loonie) and a (toonie).
So far the garlic is very flavourful and a bit sticky but I assume it is still curing? Can anyone enlighten me on that will the garlic dry more and I assume the oils remain after the moisture content drys a bit more.
