I am getting my first chickens this Thursday. YAY for me :). My choices have been narrowed down to Easter Egger, gold star, silver laced Wyandotte, buff Orpington, and black australorp. My heart is set on the Easter Egger. The lady I am getting them from only has one Easter Egger, 2 gold stars, 1buff Orpington, 1silver laced Wyandotte, and 1 black australorp. She also has white rocks which she is trying to encourage me to choose.

I was planning to only get 5 for my first time. Is this a good start? And which combination of pullets would you choose if this was your first flock? I've read everything about them on the breed selection board, so I feel like these are all great choice. That's why I'm having a hard time choosing. I want my flock to be family friendly as we have a 6 and 8 y/o and I want the to. Grow up loving to feed and be around the chickens.

We also have a rabbit hutch in the covered part of the enclosed chicken run. It is completely fenced in. Is this a good idea to keep the two baby bunnies out there or should we move them?

I did it. We are the proud chicken parents of 2 gold star, 1 Easter Egger, 1silver laced Wyandotte, 1 buff Orpington, and 1 black australorp. They were cooped up in a large dog kennel for the 1 1/2 hour ride home. I'm guessing they're still a little unnerved as they are staying all pushed as far in the corner of the coop as they can
