New at all this, just starting out. I just picked up
400
5 RIR hens,an Aracauna hen and 2 Aracauna roos....Im excited!

Welcome!! and congrats on your new birds!!! I will warn you to be very careful with your roos you might have to end up selling one, they tend to get aggressive towards each other. Best of luck to you!!!

Yes, what they said. I had my first flock of 29 birds 3 years ago, and I was lucky enough to only get 3 roosters. The ones we had we had to shoot unfortunately because of major aggression. I would be careful about having two roos together, they will most likely fight.
Best of luck with the chicks!!

Yikes I will keep an eye on them. Wonder why the lady was set on selling me two roos ,thanks for the tip....there is so much info here!
How did she sex them?

If this is your first flock you might want to consider starting with a female only flock.

Im not sure, we met at a mutual place and she brought them with her. This is my first flock....seems like they have grown so much in a short time lol they are so much fun to watch

You may not want to fall in love with your roos just yet. With only 6 females between the two of them, the girls can't catch a break. I had two Easteregger roos that were sweet as can be, and were buddies, but they ended up ganging up on one of my hens trying to mount her and killed her in the process. If they have a lot of girls they're less likely to keep going after them constantly. Being new (2nd year) I don't think I would've tried a mixed flock that small again. I will say that having one has its ups though. They're much more social than the girls, and my big guy died out in the run defending the girls from some nasty critter. They're very protective of them, I'd hate to know how it could've gone. Good luck and welcome! They're a ton of fun :)
