Well, on Sunday I finally added a gate to the run (I know, why did I build a run with out a gate, Right?) I wasn't in a real hurry because I REALLY wanted the chicks , 9 week old BR's, to know where their home is. After adding the gate, I opened it up and sat back to watch the reaction. They were a little timid at first but my trusty roo, Dave, Lead the girls out for their first ever free ranging escapade. Thgirls first stop was the small pen holding the 4 Lavender Orpington chicks. All 5 BR's seemed to LOVE the clover. Also the small bugs jumping around took a serious hit to the population. I let them feed and play for an hour or so and when they made their way back into the run for water I closed up shop. I will increase their time as they get bigger. Right now I am concerned about some ditch tigers we have running around. I will sit out with them and the .22 watching for the cats so I can thin them out before they thin me out.
One of the girls gets the attention of the babies.
Good ol' Dave and his favorite gal... I really need to name the gals.
A couple girls getting their grub on.
