Goose egg compared with our normal chicken's egg, compared with one of our chick's first eggs that we got a couple weeks ago!

Look what I woke up to this morning!
Our goose had started building a nest and they were acting funny, and our gander has gotten much more aggressive, so I knew it was almost time for them, but I went to let them out this morning and there was not only one egg in the nest, but two! Is that normal for the goose's first time? The only other explanation I have is if what we think is our gander is actually a male, but he's so characteristically male, super protective and everything, his honk is much more high pitched, etc. He came to us unsexed, and she came sexed, so we always knew she was a female, but is this weird? They seem a tad bit smaller than normal goose eggs, but hmm. I just haven't seen them doing that goosey love ritual yet. Any ideas?

Either way, it's so exciting!

In my experience, the goose can hide an egg AND her laying time very well! They are very canny and clever. The first eggs are very often way off to the side of the nest, and then they fill up the middle. The first few eggs are often infertile. If you take eggs from the nest you should leave at least one, as not to discourage the goose from laying, or abandoning the old nest to find another nesting site.

Oops... took both out, but thanks for the advice! There's not many places she could go for a nesting site as her options are warm comfy stall in barn or snow and ice... But yay! She didn't seem interested in sitting on the nest at all, when I opened the door to let them out they both ran out without a backward glance, but if she ever gets broody we're going to let her sit on them and see how it goes. It's like Christmas morning but better, because you don't know when to expect it! haha
