Hi! My name is Sara
and I am a wife, mother of 2, and first grade teacher! I completed an embryology project and my school decided to keep our chickens! We currently have 8 Buff Orpingtons and plan to keep the hens.... which I feel like might only be 2 of them so maybe 2 hens and a rooster. I have no idea, I've heard about chicken math and I am dreaming up ways to add to the flock! I am very new at this, I have always wanted chickens but the principal of my school giving me the OK was what turned this little dream into a reality. I have written a few grants to get us off the ground! While we have been constructing the coop they have lived on my back porch and my own children love them. My favorite aspect of raising chickens so far has been the time it has taken me out of the house and away from a screen. I love tending to them and while tending to them and my tiny little garden I have felt so much pride in my little accomplishments. My students and my own children also have fallen in love with chickens and have gained a wealth of knowledge on an animal they interact with everyday, and by that I mostly mean chicken nuggets BUT... it's definitely caused them to think a little bit more about where they get their food. The reason I joined back yard chickens is because I was googling questions left and right and this is always where I ended up. So thank you to everyone who asked questions before me, thank you all for the wealth of knowledge you share and post here, ya'll have helped me tremendously!
