Ok. Good that makes me feel better. I was afraid I was doing something wrong. With all these eyes watching me I am so afraid of only getting one or two babies out of 24...that would be really sad...or worse...NONE!

But I am excited about only having 2 non fertile eggs. It makes me feel like im doing it right. This being my first hatch and all...Im not even kidding I have been having dreams about ducks for the last 4 weeks and I will just be releived when they get here and I can just relax.

WOOOHOOO! We candled our mallard eggs today. 11 out of 12 have long beautiful red veins! One of the eggs had a blood ring.

But that is still 21 eggs so far. I am so excited. Our Pekins will be hatching on Halloween. And the mallards on the 5th. I cannot wait to post pictures! My whole school is so excited. We are going to have a live stream webcam up in the next week or two. I will give you guys the link when I get it up. I am soo excited. I cant wait to take pictures of the duckies following my kiddos down the halls (empty of course dont want them getting trampled

) I am so freaking excited! I'm pretty sure this will be the longest 18 days of my life! SOOO EXCITED!!!

Heres hoping our babies get through the next 18 days unscathed!

Great news! My fingers are crossed for you. Ducks are so much fun! I just bought mine these rubbery tubs made to feed horses out of so they will be able to have some swim time in winter. The baby pools will crack in the freezing weather but we have MANY nice sunny days all winter sothese are tough and should work fine.

I hope your hatch goes well. Just BE Patient and let them do what they need to do. Some may be early and some late. .

Tomorrow would be two weeks, but since my students will not be here, we candled the Pekins today. We could see the babies moving! That was the most incredible thing ive ever seen. Couldnt tell what body parts we were seeing or if they even have body parts yet but they were sure swimming around in there! I think we woke one up from a nap cause it wasnt moving and then all of a sudden it jolted awake. My kids are so excited. They are saying that they want a particular egg to be their "son." I told them we were going to be like their mommies and daddies and apparently to them that makes the ducks their sons. I love teaching special ed! I think we did loose another egg though, because i cant see any veins, just some dark floaters, and there is a long dark line on the inside of the egg. I know there were eggs before today. Is that the blood ring in a line shape? Im not really sure when you pull the plug on them...ill just leave it in the bator for now i guess. But wow...seeing them move...that was unexpected and just plain...awesome...
