This is why I remove mine as soon as they are up and moving. The fan kit that was added to my LG has no cover. I did 3 hatches with no problems (at least with the fan) then I had TWO stretch out under it and got hit. The first one chipped a beak and made it bleed. It was minor though. But the second one....almost scalped her. I thought for sure that she would loose sight in one eye. I was able to pull the skin back down where it belonged and kept antibiotic ointment on it and she healed well, but her eye lid still has a slit and a loose piece on it. She's 18 months now and luckily her eye sight is fine. But yes, they should definitely be producing guards for them.Three fuzzy butts and another zipper!!! squeeeeeee!!!![]()
Now the bad: We ran into our first problem with the incukit and I just want to issue a warning to all those who are purchasing one to throw in their bators. Put a guard on that thing! We had to remove the first three a little early b/c they were tall enough to stick their heads in the fan once they really got moving. I am going to write Incubator warehouse and ask them to put a guard over the fan.

I used neosporin and just tried to make sure that I didn't get it in her eye. The one that chipped the beak I just wet a q-tip and cleaned him up. I never knew a beak could bleed like that until the hatch before the fan incident when I had something like 7 or 8 chicks in the bator running around and playing "king of the hill" off the thermometer. One of them lost and chipped the beak on the thermometer, pour thing cried! So I started taking them out when there was more than 3 or 4 hatched and active. Then after the fan incident, I said nope, as soon as you are moving and stretching you're in the brooder, wet or dry. My brooder is much safer than my incubator.Yep. That's exactly what happened. The first one hit and there was blood everywhere from a chipped beak. Scared the living daylights out of me.
Went out to get the bedding so I could move them and when I came back in the second one got hit and got knocked out! Scared me even more.
I think they are both okay, though the second one is keeping its eye closed. Is bacitracin or neosporin okay to use?
LOL. Men!!! They just don't understand the maternal instinct....lol You are on a roll!! Woo Hoo!!! Going for 100% So glad to hear you're having a good hatch!Sounds like you jinxed yourself.I'm definitely going to construct a guard of some kind before our next hatch. A piece of screen might work.![]()
9/14!!![]()
We have two that have pipped internally, but not externally yet. Hubbs is channeling Sc, and I'm like, "but what if they need help!?"![]()
