First hatch of the year.

Candled this morning (day 9). Out of 8 buff silkie eggs, 7 had visible veins and dark masses, some you could even see the embryo moving! 1 was clear, so its getting tossed. All 4 black/blue/splash eggs are developing, and 3 out of 4 white eggs are as well. So 2 clear out of 16 eggs, which were shipped during some very cold days, I'd say we're doing well!

Ok... so I candled and the air cells are still a little wiggly but I have been turning in the cartons. It looks like the veins are around the air cell and the embryos are stuck either under the air cell (I can't see them) or right next to it. They don't move when I move the egg. They sat fat end up for 3 and a half days all together (24 hours before incubation and another 36 hours after I put them in because the air cells were still detached.) Could it be possible that because they sat without turning for so long the yolk got stuck to the membrane? If so what are the dangers of this? A couple of the embryos look like quitters while some of the others I have seen moving. This is all new to me since this is only my second hatch and my first hatch was easy and successful. Maybe I just got lucky my first hatch. Any help from some experienced hatchers would be super awesome.

Candled last nite. It had been 9 days. All 9 eggs are developing good. Even the 5 out of the fridge are doing good. Cant wait to hatch these so I can hatch more.

They sound fine to me the embryos are usually near the aircell. Did you see veins?

Ya I definitely see veins in most. Some I don't see any which are the ones I believe quite or were infertile. I also see one with a red ring around it. It looks like a vein but I have heard about the blood rings. Are blood rings always around the air cell or can they be around the middle of the egg?

that sounds like a blood ring...when in doubt put it back in the bator....compare it to the others in a few more days...detached air cells are iffy up until they hatch.....all you can do is keep your incubator at accurate temps and humidity and hope...

Even if they hatch in cartons?
I am just going to leave them all alone (except for hand turning)
I will wait until right before lockdown before discarding anything unless I smell a stinky egg. I'm a serious candling addict so this will be hard. But I must do it. For the babies.
:jumpy

Oh man...I am really jonesing for some chicks and hatching. I think I am buying another bigger incubator this weekend...I keep finding more breeds I want to add to my flock... Spending lots of time on the hatching eggs forum and ebay....I am searching the different hatching and chick forums...Thank goodness we get to lock down this weekend!
