I hate to duplicate questions already asked but I just don't have time to read right now, I need experienced help!
we are 1st time chicken owners & our hen took to brooding on her own and we have 5 baby chicks so far! Our hen actually was sharing with another and they seemed not to be setting on the rest of the eggs once busy with the 1st 4 baby chicks. So we have already intervened and got the rest of the eggs in an incubator with no clue the day count for hatch (we had a 3rd hen sneaking in 2 lay for about a week) so right now I have 1 peeping and has been working for about 3 hrs & has a small opening. 1 or 2 of the other eggs are moving but no cracks. With respect to not opening the incubator, I am sure this will not all finish in a couple days, and really want all to make it if they have a chance. Therefore I couldnt leave the chick in the incubator anyways. I saw on a very good post its best to let it be but being as how we already interfered I feel like its our responsibility to help finish but sure dont want to hurt them. Our incubator is styrofoam, still air. How long can the baby stay in there after hatch? is 99.5 too hot for it in there? or should I move it right to the brooder lamp? At this point I am holding back to help the little guy finish, but don't want to lose him! So should I help? thanks

wow, thank u for quick answer. gosh, I dunno if I can wait that long!! so as long as he is still peepin he is ok? and the wire mesh isnt too hot for them to be on? Read your info on still air bators, we have our thermometer on the wire mesh next to the eggs, but it was a quick grab & buy @ the local TSC, didn't plan on this! Thats how we roll around here...another egg has the beginning's of peeking, a small x shaped crack is coming!
so I need to keep my hands outta there, ok....thanks!

yea some chicks take a day or two to hatch after the crack the shell an some just dont make it. It is better to stay hands off because when you open the incubator you lose humidity an the egg that are about to hatch suffer. If a chick cant hatch on its own odds are it wont make it in the long run ether.

Hi,

I incubated several turkey eggs. 5 had problems hatching out. After about 24 hours I helped them out. They are about a month old now and doing well. One had a foot problem but it resolved itself after about a week.

CHICK HATCHED!! I am having a bit of trouble with incubator temp fluctuations, but got it settled again @ 95
chick is peepin good but the ?cord? of the egg is still kinda attached to him as he is scootin around in incubator....would this need to be removed? I read that the hatched eggs are germy and I have another in the beginnings of hatch and 3 other eggs I am hopeful for hatch....should I pull out cracked egg???
thanks guys! my patience paid off so far!!
adding on: ok, so good or bad, I had my boy lift the lid just enough to get my hand in there
to pull out the egg shell, I couldn't see it bumping into the germy egg over and over....
he still is scootin quite a bit but keeps flippin on his back...should I move him out to the
lamp?? I dont want him to stress out and die on me.....
