First Hatch

This is our test run in our homemade coola-bator. We started with 4 eggs. After candling 1 was not fertilized. The other 3 were viable up to day 18 and lockdown. Today is day 20 and we had our first pip 9 hours ago.....And now the waiting begins...

This is our initial set up.

Did they hatch I'm having the same problem there's a pip but no sound

Beginning of Day 21. Only 1 egg pipped so far. It has been 21 hours since initial pip with little progress...getting nervous

Great News....22 hours after our first egg pipped a beak pecked through the egg shell. This little bird had not made a sound until the beak poked through. It began to zip quickly and had popped out of its shell within an hour.

The rooster was a BCM and it was in with several breeds of hens. Greater news....a second egg pipped a hour after the first hatched

The chick is very active and peeping. After it climbed into the pan and onto the cloth it dozed off and is waiting for its sibling to hatch.






Sleeping on extra cloth that we put in if we needed something to increase humidity.
