Well, I finally gave in and decided to put my fears aside and ordered my first batch of hatching eggs from ebay. I got a dozen Blue Orpingtons! I was so scared the post office would ruin them or lose them so it took me forever to finally order. I picked them up yesterday and as the lady carried them to the counter I saw the destroyed box they were in! My heart sank. I told her they were hatching eggs, the box said fragile everywhere! It looked like they had smashed it on every side. However the lady sent extras and only one was cracked thanks to her packing. She had used foam to line the box and bubble wrapped each egg several times. Then packed them in shredded paper. So thoughtful!! I can't imagine the careless people reading this box and still smashing it anyway. I mean the postal workers get paid well I know because my friends dad is a mail carrier and his brother in our town, they get every holiday off, a long lunch break not to mention steady off days and half days to boot! So I ask whats the problem?? Can't you guys at the post office be a little bit considerate?? The box is marked for petes sake, or maybe you folks just enjoy destroying something other people worked to pay for. But, sadly everyone is right it does no good to complain because they just stand there looking with the most uncaring look on their face, like oh well, it wasn't mine.
So to all the postal workers who will hopefully read this, do your job and take pride in delivering our mail carefully.

I have found in some cases where I have shipped eggs, that if you put nothing on the outside of the box you are better off. Seems like when they see "FRAGILE", they like to toss it around a little!!

I have heard that some people with PETA work for the post office and deliberately destroy the eggs. I don't know why they are against it, most of us hatch for pets or show and treat the birds extremly well.

I bought some hatching eggs for the first time ever too, and when they arrived, 4 out of the dozen I had ordered were broken inside, I could tell, as some had leaked outside of the box...My heart sank too, but was pleased that they had sent extras, and they were unharmed. Out of the 14 that arrived, I ended up with 10, and one of my hens broke one. Our box was clearly marked hatching eggs all sides of the box...No damage to the box whatsoever, but I am sure someone had to have given the box a good shake...as the eggs were well packed in the middle of the box. I wonder how the Post office treats live chicks that are sent in the mail, after seeing the way I received my eggs, it sure makes me wonder...At least 5 of the 9 eggs I had left are progressing...I am on day 8 and see peeps inside. I was disappointed, but am glad I am not at a total loss...I bought some local eggs, and am trying again, just to help my other broody gal be a mom like she so wants to be...

Happy hatching!!! I know we are sure enjoying this whole process...Now that we have candled, and actually seen the peeps inside, Oh, the anticipation....its like we have to wait 12 more days....AARRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH!!! The suspense is already killing me, nervewracking!!! Its like, there are REAL live babies in there!!!

I bought some local eggs today, and started over with our first hen that got us into this whole mess!!! Dont know what they will be when they hatch, dont care, just hope they do!

Good luck!!
